Make It Meaningful

Do you do the shoe boxes?

We have participated for quite a few years now.
It's a great way for the girls to be able to give to those
who are less fortunate.
We have so much fun getting the boxes ready.
We go shopping and fill the boxes as full as we can.
The girls are always asking
"Do you think they would like this?"
I try to explain how these childrens lives are SO different than ours.
But it's hard for my girls to even imagine.

So this year I wanted to make it more than just
fun shopping.

I wanted to make it meaningful.

So we started by watching this video.
I highly recommend watching it.
It was so good for my girls to hear how hard life is for other kids.
It was so good for them to hear how a simple act of filling a shoe box
can change someone's life.

Then of course we had to do some shopping.

Then the sorting

Then they made cards for each box.

And lastly we prayed for the girls who would receive our boxes.
And we committed to keep praying for these girls.

It was so good.
So much better than years in the past when we just
shopped and stuffed.

If you would like to find out more information about the shoebox ministry you can check it out here.
(I took the pictures from their web cite.)

I hope you get the chance to do something meaningful today.

  2. Hello Amy, I just popped over from Mica's blog and it is a delight to meet you and your adorable girls. I love your little art projects and the dictionary page leaves was my favorite. I'm a third grade teacher and I love trying to fit a bit of art into our days. I miss that so much with our testing and standards and what not. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I've enjoyed my visit and I look forward to more.
