Thankful

Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing weekend!

We had a recovery weekend.

Last week, my Kaitlyn had to have surgery on her hand.

As you can imagine, this has been quite heavy on our hearts.
But even though this was a tough week for our family, I am SO thankful for so many things.

I am thankful it's over.
Nothing's worse than the weight of worry.
I know you know what I'm talking about.
One of the first things Kait said when she woke up was
"I'm so glad it's over"
Me too sweet girl.

So now we 're on a road of recovery.
We have a few check up appointments in the near future.
If you're the praying type, please pray that she would be safe from infection.
She's already feeling better and slowing way down on the pain medication.

During all of this, God taught me so many lessons.
One of them being,
'to be ready to love.'
(and wouldn't you know, that's what the sermon was about this week)
We have been so loved on through all of this.
And you know, it doesn't take much.
My cousin brought me to tears when she showed up at my door with  a Costco pizza and gifts for Kait.
I have friends who have never  met my Kait in person praying for her and sending her care packages.
Emails, texts, facebook messages- all pouring out love and support
and let me tell you- it helps!
If you get a chance, I suggest sending a note to encourage someone you know is struggling today.

Another lesson
'nurses are amazing'
Yes, we are SO SO thankful to the surgeon who worked his expertise on our little girls hand.
But Juanita, our nurse, she's an angel.
She checked on us, answered our bazillion questions, reassured my scared little girl.
She was the bomb.
If you get a chance, I suggest blessing a nurse- they are amazing.

Another lesson
'to open my home more'
My Aunt and Uncle live near the hospital and they have repeatedly opened their home to us.
They have made us feel at home and loved
and fed us so so well.
If you get a chance, I suggest opening your home to someone in need.

Another lesson
'my parents rock'
Ok, I already knew this one,
but they have been such a source of support taking off work for every appointment and meeting us at my Aunts to watch the little girls.
If you get the chance, I suggest taking the time to tell someone just how much you appreciate them.

(a fun way to say thank you is filling a jar with notes of thankfulness)

So I write this post with a full and encouraged heart.

I'm ready to get my 'love' game face on.
I want to bless others like we've been blessed.
How fun to look for ways to bless people!
I'm really good at thinking about it,
not so much actually doing it.
But what a great time to work on it!
It's going to be our focus as a family this Christmas season.
It's gonna be good.

Hope you get a chance to be a blessing today!

  1. SO glad that everything turned out okay. :)
i love how God uses others to show His love to us...He knows JUST what we need!
i will pray for sweet Kait!

i cannot even tell you how excited we are about Christmas this year! it's going to look different!
we have always enjoyed giving, but we are cutting waaay back on ourselves and reaching out to others!
times to short to keep the love of Christ to ourselves!
i'm super excited to see what He has in store.
    xoxo

also, i'm REALLY good at thinking about it, too, but the actual doing it is where i fall short. :)

  2. SO happy she is doing better. Last spring Juliana had to spend a few days in the hospital and it really changed they way I looked at life. It is funny how some Sunday you walk into church and you feel like the sermon was just for you.
    Praying for your family!

  4. I've been thinking about you and what might have kept you from blogging. I'm so glad everything is okay and will keep your whole family in my prayers. I will also pray for a speedy recovery for Kait.

I know how scary it can be to have a child need surgery. One of my boys had to have surgery when he was just months old. I was so nervous but then felt much better as soon as he woke up and I could hold my baby again!

Love this post- very well put :)
